Plan — Design system

2026-refresh › design-system · feature · 2026-08-05 · spec.html

Three phases: render the candidate boards and let Asim pick · capture the pick as DESIGN.md · build the kits from it. Asim's sign-off gates every phase boundary — nothing batches downstream until the surface it needs is signed. Safe to stop after any phase.

F1

Render the candidate boards and get Asim's pick

Three directions × three surfaces (a real card, a real slide moment from blocking-vs-non-blocking, an overlay on a real lecture frame), side by side on one review page.

Proved byThe boards page itself, and Asim's recorded pick (direction per surface, with any mix-and-match noted).

Build

  • diffThree candidate directions defined from the existing looks (card-v1 slate/amber · pilot warm · asim.dev terminal) with tokens sketched for each
    evidence
    On tick.
  • logSame three course moments rendered in all three directions (card copy: IIFE · slide: latency table + bars · overlay: emphasis box on a real take frame)
    log — render run
    On tick.
  • diffOne review page presenting the nine renders side by side, judgeable at 1× — Asim reviews in a working session
    evidence
    On tick.

Prove

  • logAsim's pick recorded in his own words (per surface)
    log — the recorded pick
    On tick.
F2

Write DESIGN.md from the pick

The researched convention: YAML frontmatter tokens (colours with usage rules, type, spacing, marks) + the body (tone, principles, component rules, do's/don'ts) — at repo root.

Proved byDESIGN.md at the repo root, and Asim's sign-off that it says what he picked — including the on-screen mark decision (advjs.asim.dev / asim.dev / none).

Build

  • diffDESIGN.md written: frontmatter tokens + principles + per-surface rules + do's/don'ts, from the F1 pick
    evidence
    On tick.
  • diffWatermark/mark policy written in (what it says, where it sits, how loud), within Udemy policy
    evidence
    On tick.

Prove

  • logAsim sign-off recorded
    log
    On tick.

Build the kits from DESIGN.md

ContextCard v2, the slide/diagram kit, the overlay kit — reusable, parameterised, in packages/remotion — plus the recording profile's theme/font.

Proved byOne golden render per kit (the IIFE card in the new language · one finished slide sequence · one overlaid clip) each passing conformance and each carrying Asim's per-surface sign-off.

Build

  • diffContextCard v2 in packages/remotion/, props-driven from card copy files, tokens imported from DESIGN.md
    evidence
    On tick.
  • diffSlide/diagram kit: title · agenda · diagram · code-card · emphasis primitives, config-driven (evaluate Remotion Bits/Onda before building bespoke)
    evidence
    On tick.
  • diffOverlay kit (boxes, arrows, lower-thirds, bumpers) + recording-profile theme/font settings
    evidence
    On tick.

Prove

  • logThree golden renders conform-pass; Asim per-surface sign-offs recorded
    log
    On tick.

Decision Defaults — standing autonomy for this run

  • Candidate-board composition and typography trials within each direction are the builder's call — the pick is Asim's alone.
  • Kit API shape (prop names, config format) is the builder's call, logged.
  • Not covered (always a stop): declaring any style chosen without Asim's recorded pick · rendering anything downstream (cards/slides batches) from an unsigned surface · recording a verdict without a verifier's report · amending this plan.
